Works independently or as part of a team with routine commissary tasks, including; assisting customers with prices or location; operating an electronic checkout system (cash register); making correct change; receiving change fund, and checking cash drawer. Performs a variety of duties involved in the handling, preparing, and maintaining of stock levels of grocery, meat and produce items. Place stock on shelves or display counters. Participates in receiving, storing, pricing, and displaying goods, working supplies and equipment. Participates in conducting inventories and maintaining records of orders, receipts, and sales. Ensures that all shopping areas are clean, neat and safe. Receives requisition order receipts from department managers to place orders of commissary items with supplies. Ensures that the register reflects balance and adjustments. Receives and processes a variety of accounting documents, charge account requests, and dishonored checks. Operates personnel computer to perform a variety of clerical duties in support of administrative and data maintenance functions. Responds to a wide variety of customer inquiries. Addresses patron concerns or inquiries, referring those that cannot be handled personally either to the supervisor or the leader. Ensures that all customers are treated in a courteous, friendly manner so that their shopping experience is pleasant. Provides special assistance to customers in handling bulky or heavy items, when necessary. Operates an electronic checkout system to record unit prices in proper departments. Verifies patron identification and ration cards to ensure authorized entry and purchase of commissary merchandise. Projects a helpful and courteous attitude while accurately and efficiently processing patron's orders, ensuring variances are within an acceptable level and making sure that all, media (i.e., personal checks, money orders, traveler's checks, credit cards, debit cards, coupons and other approved forms of payment) accepted is valid and contains the required information. Accomplishes error corrections and voids. Accepts and verifies various forms of media. And makes correct change for customers. Performs a variety of duties relating to receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, and other processing of cash items, Prepares cash register trays and issues them with keys to cashiers. Follows established procedures with regard to dishonored checks; renders refunds or exchanges; accounts for cash turned in (and any variances); receives cashiers' trays at turn-in; and performs all tasks needed to achieve total cash deposit. Lifts and carries light-to-medium weight stock, materials, and tools. Uses carts and manual or electric pallet jacks and other material handling equipment in the movement of items to replenish depleted stock with incoming items, and in obtaining stock from the storage area and transporting it to shelving or display areas. Maintains adequate stock of subsistence items. Utilizing receiving reports, NIS report, visual inspections, etc., initiates necessary corrective action to minimize MS conditions. Performs correct product rotation. Arranges stock in a neat and orderly manner. Assists in price changes, price verifications, and shelf label replacement maintenance to ensure that prices are properly displayed and correct. Requests and hangs sale signs throughout the store. Assists in the all departments preparing items for display. Stocks and maintains all display cases, retrieving items from freeze and chill to replenish needed items. Identifies spoiled/outdated items and removes items or notifies higher-graded employees of' actions required, and ensuring freshness, inspects products produce and stores produce in accordance with established procedures. Packages and prices as necessary. Refers any discrepancies or problems to the leader or supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.
